Practice Makes Perfect…or at least tolerable
Top leaders strive for self-mastery and practice developing qualities that will help them lead themselves and others. This is a practice that I also find very spiritual because it allows me to look at myself deeply and imagine potentials for me that I have not yet uncovered.
I just thought I would share with you leadership focuses I live by and practice to improve on daily. Learning to lead myself and others forward in the best way I know in the moment is a constant learning process. As I improve my abilities, I get more clarity and ability as a leader. Take what you want and discard the rest. I hope they bring you humor, inspiration and motivation.

• No one gets what they want out of life, they get what they believe out of life. (Oprah Winfrey) What do you believe?
• A false sense of self esteem will get you nowhere.
• Your mindset creates your life…If you don’t like your creation…look at your mindset and change it. This will change your life. (Change the way you look at things and the things you look at will change. Dr. Wayne Dyer)
• Remember it’s a global community celebrate diversity.
• Never, make a promise you don’t intend to keep (meaning…don’t lie.)
• Leaders and lifelong learning go hand in hand.
• When your troops are working effectively…do not disturb them.
• You must become the person you are seeking to help you.
• Leader is as leader does.
• How you treat yourself is how you will treat your team. Are you hard on yourself?…then you’re probably hard on your team without knowing it. If you honor yourself then you honor them
• Lead by serving, praising and honoring.
• Have a sense of humor about yourself and situations it will calm everyone down and help them focus.
• If you have a consistently high turnover rate then, you have a toxic manger somewhere in your office… get rid of them. It will save you lots of money and improve moral.
• Be humble and make your team a pot of coffee.
• Listen, listen, listen and then listen some more.
• Ask for help and advice from your team…instead of forcing your intentions and solutions on them.
• Stop trying to impress your team with how great you are…observe your team and tell them how great they are and where they impress you.
• Your job, position or career is not who you are nor does it make you more important than you were before you took the leadership position.
• Patience is not a virtue… it’s a requirement!
• When things go wrong take the responsibility, when things go right share the share the praise.
• It’s okay to have an attitude…as long as it’s a positive one.
• What you focus on grows…what do you focus on?
• As you think…so shall you observe the world and others.
• Always be ethical and fair in all your leadership doings. If you are unethical eventually you will be caught and lose everything.
• Your heart is the destination, the GPS, and the map…your brain is the heart’s personal assistant.
• A defensive person needs authentic love and validation before they can hear you…not your advice or feedback.
• Everyone wants to be seen…especially the rich and famous.
• In every moment you have a chance to spread light or darkness.
• To believe that someone is the result of their horrible past…is to become an enabler.
• Discernment happens with lots of self reflection.
• Strong effective leaders model the behavior they want from their peers and team.
• Your leadership style is a brand. What’s your brand?
• Aspire to be as authentic as you can, it helps others feel comfortable.
• A confused mind never works effectively, so communicate your requests and intentions clearly.
• I’d rather have someone with drive and work ethic than a degree.
• Read at least one book a month on a self development topic.
• Kill your TV and any other sort of propaganda.
• Inspiration and motivation are the keys to an uplifting environment.
• No Gossiping allowed.
• Strive to be genuine not perfect.
• Don’t underestimate the power of one aligned with intention.
• Everyone needs thanks and reassurance especially your top performers.
• Buy fruit and bagels on Mondays; not donuts on Fridays…your performance will go up.
• When someone trades time for your money…their time is more valuable than your money. Treat them with respect.
• Trust your gut always
• Take a risk and seize an opportunity that feels right
• Lead from the front.
• Being a leader has nothing to do with a position at work but a lifestyle that you chose to live by.
• Leadership is not a position it is a journey
• Do not expect others to be more than you can be…especially your kids.
• Always focus on strengths not downfalls.
• Seek no one’s approval but let others share their opinions, and then decide.
• There is always two sides to any story…don’t get hooked in the story.
• Your thoughts will either empower or impair you abilities…chose empowering thoughts.
• Stop to reevaluate your plan and the destination you are actually at. Course correct if you need it.
• Don’t forget to go outside and play
• Spiritual nourishment is an everyday thing.
• Build and invest in healthy relationships.
• Love your accomplishments and your not so great accomplishments.
